Here’s a list of the gear I use to make the images on this site.  I buy a mix of new and used kit. Dodd Camera here is Cleveland is usually my first stop for new and user gear.  Their product knowledge is fantastic. They also price-match any advertised price. For used equipment, I look at mpb.com.  MPB’s selection is extensive, and it’s a great place to sell gear I don’t use anymore.

Main Gear

Picture of Sony A7R III

Sony A7R IIIA – My main body.  One of the best sensors on the market by any measure. The body is small, light, and the battery lasts all day.  It’s a fantastic camera. Find on Dodd Camera and MPB.com.

Sony 24-105mm f/4 G OSS E Mount Lens – My main lens.  I use this for most landscape images.  It’s wonderfully sharp, and the 24-105mm range allows me to compose shots further away than a standard 24-70mm. Find on Dodd Camera and MPB.com.

Sigma 100-400mm f/5-6.3 DG DN OS Contemporary Lens

Sigma 100-400mm f/5-6.3 DG DN OS E Mount Lens – My main wildlife lens.  The reach of this lens on an APS-C sensor is amazing, and it’s sharp enough I can read letters on a boat over a mile (1.5km) away. Find on Dodd Camera and MPB.com.

Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 Art

Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN E Mount Lens – Wide angle fast-ish lens I use for grand vistas and astrophotography. As with all Sigma Art lenses, it’s super sharp. Find on Dodd Camera.  I haven’t found this lens on mpb.com, yet.

Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM

Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM Lens – Great little lens for portraits.  Very inexpensive, but a nice addition to the bag. Find on Dodd Camera and MPB.com.

Sigma MC-11 EF to E mount converter

Sigma MC-11 Canon EF to Sony E Mount Converter The MC-11 allows me to continue to use my Canon EF 50mm prime lens until I feel the need to move. Find on Dodd Camera and MPB.com.

Sirui K-20x Ball Head

Sirui K-20x Ball Head – Sturdy ball head, and not too heavy for hiking. Easy to level for great landscape shots.

Benro Induro Hydra 2 Waterproof Carbon Fiber Series #2 Tripod

Benro Induro Hydra 2 Waterproof Carbon Fiber Series #2 Tripod – Nice tripod for hiking.  It’s fairly light weighing slightly over 3 pounds (1.5kg), but very sturdy.

NiSi Filter

Assorted NiSi Filters – I usually carry an 82mm 1-5 stop variable ND, 8 stop ND, and CPL filters with stepping rings for each of the main lenses above.  Dodd Camera is the only place I buy filters.

Lowepro ProTactic 450 AW II Pro – It’s comfortable enough for an all-day hike carrying all the gear above. I’m a fan of LowePro and Case Logic bags. Find on Dodd Camera and B&H.

Canon EOS 80D

Canon EOS 80D – After many years of excellent service, this became my backup body when I upgraded to the Sony A7R IIIA.  It’s a great camera, and was more than capable enough to keep me challenged for almost 6 years as I grew as a photographer.  You can find the Canon EOS 80D used on B&H Photo and MPB.com.
